What’s Spleeyah?

Holy crap that looks painful.

Holy crap that looks painful.

Around the internet, I am known as Spleeyah.  This name has sort of a weird background to it, and it’s creation is the result of the two long weeks I spent the summer before my freshman year in high school, where I was subjected to hours of torturous work in the sun as I prepared to be a member of my school’s entertainment unit.  This long and drawn out series of events led me to become friends with Taner and Mitch.

Taner was the semi-serious one who would try to make us get things done, and Mitch was the wild and crazy one who was always fun and exciting.  Well, after two weeks of the sun beating down on us for several hours at a time, we came up with some sound effects that went along with our instrument, the trumpet.  One of these sound effects was known as a “spleeyah.”  And so, the name was born.

This sound occurs when an egotistical lead trumpet player (they all are) tries, in vain, to hit that awesome-super-fantastic-show-stopping-altisimo high note, and fails.  Fails HARD.  He tries to hit the note, and it just doesn’t work (all trumpet players know this feeling).  He hits a “note” somewhere near his goal, and falls off of said note very hard and disgusting-like, and it makes an onomatopoeic sound like “spleeeeeeeeeYAH.”  Thus, the meaning of “spleeyah” is revealed, and your goal in life of knowing its meaning is fulfilled.

Carry on.
